Praful Patel Launches india’s first Sea Plane Service


  • Union Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel today launched the first Seaplane of the Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd, and aptly named it 'Jal Hans’, at a ceremony held at the Juhu Aerodromme in Mumbai.
  • This service will be operationalized in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as per a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Andaman and Nicobar Administration and Pawan Hans Helicopters.
  • It will provide a Boost for Tourism in Andaman Islands.The Centre is permitting 100% FDI in this sector  to expand the service tomost of the popular islands and coastal destinations.

JSW buy stake in Ispat


  • JSW Steel, Sajjan Jindal owned company, India’s third largest steel manufacturer, has acquired a majority 41% stake in the beleaguered Ispat Industries for Rs 2,157 crore.
  • The acquisition will give JSW Steel access to an additional 3.3 million tonnes of annual capacity and by the time it completes its 3 million tonnes expansion in 2011.

CAG to appear before PAC today on 2G issue

  • Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG) of India, Vinod Rai will appear before Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) headed by BJP veteran Murli Manohar Joshi on Monday in connection with the 2G telecom controversy.
  • The Opposition, including the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Left parties, had been demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe the issue in depth. The government continued to stoutly oppose a JPC probe on the ground that it had already initiated “multi-faceted” action against those involved. The setting up of a JPC would “only delay the inquiry and politicise the matter.''


Srikrishna Committee
  • It is a 5 member committee constituted with B.N Srikrishna as the chairman of the committee in March 2010 appointed by the centre on Telangana Issue.The committee is expected to submit its report by 29 December 2010
  • B.N Srikrishna known as Justice Srikrishna is an Indian jurist and a retired Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
  • From 1993-98, he headed the well-known Commission of Inquiry, the "Srikrishna Commission" as it became known, which investigated causes and apportioned blame for the Bombay Riots of 1992-93.
  • Congress MPs, ministers and legislators from Telangana  threatened to resign enmass if the Srikrishna committee does not recommend a separate state for the region.



WikiLeaks' Assange inks £1.1 million autobiography deal


  • Julian Assange, the founder of whistle-blower WikiLeaks website has bagged a 1.1 million pounds (Rs 7.6 crore) deal for his autobiography.
  • Assange whose site has enraged the American government by releasing hundreds of secret embassy cables, said the money would help him defend himself against allegations of sexual assault made by two women in Sweden and to keep WikiLeaks afloat.
  • Earlier amid stepped pressure from the US government, credit card companies Visa and MasterCard and the Internet payment firm PayPal have blocked donations to WikiLeaks.
